Discover picturesque Lake Pukaki, a glacial lake that’s famed for its milky turquoise colour, before arriving at spectacular Aoraki/Mount Cook. Aoraki means Cloud Piercer and its peak reaches 3,724 metres (12,218 feet), making it New Zealand’s highest mountain.

We begin our hike in the renowned and sacred Tōpuni area of the Hooker Valley. Learn about rich Māori history and the ancient legends that surround this region as we traverse across the first of three swing bridges, soaking up views across Mueller Lake and Mount Sefton.

Winding through the Hooker Valley, keep an eye out for the Mount Cook buttercup (the world’s biggest buttercup) and local wildlife including the cheeky kea (New Zealand’s native and the world’s only alpine parrot), chamois and deer. Enjoy sweeping alpine views, snow-capped mountain peaks and vast open valleys sprawling with alpine tussocks before arriving at the terminal glacier lake.

Here we pause to soak up views of majestic glaciers, towering Aoraki/Mount Cook and the spectacular Southern Alps before returning along the same track.
