Why Queenstown

Queenstown aerial view

Queenstown, New Zealand, is known as the “Adventure Capital of the World” because it’s home to every activity you’ve ever heard of, plus a few more, all served up against a surreal backdrop of jagged peaks and a sparkling lake.

There's plenty to do in Queenstown, whatever your age or ability. From hiking, skydiving or skiing, to perusing some of the finest vineyards the country has to offer, you'll find something that takes your breath away.

For those who enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation, Queenstown offers all the comforts you'd expect from resort town that pride's itself on being Apsen's Southern Hemisphere Sister City, with yoga studios, boutique shopping, superb cafés and restaurants and tranquil spas.

Queenstown also offers a vibrant nightlife for those who like to let their hair out - and because Queenstown has some of the most luxurious accommodation options in the world, there's plenty of choice in just where you can kick back after a big day (or night).

Gateway town
Not only is Queenstown a brilliant destination in its own right, but it's also well connected to some of the South Island's other favourite locations, making it a great base for exploring some of the most dramatic and varied landscapes you'll find in the world. Nearby towns include Wanaka, Glenorchy and Arrowtown which are all well worth a visit. Aoraki Mt Cook is just a few hours drive north and Milford Sound, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dubbed the "8th wonder of the world", is just a couple of hours south.
